February 18, 2025 Open House - Update
Mar 7
2 min read
We distributed flyers to 2700 residents in Oak Bay inviting them to attend Westplan's Open House. Thanks to you printing and delivery costs where covered by donations. When Canada Post failed us.... John, Bev, Nessa, and Albert dropped off flyers last minute.
The open house was well attended .... it was the efforts of this group that insured there was a good level of participation. It is so important to attend and be heard.
The majority of the attendees stated the proposal is too large, crowded and inappropriate for the neighbourhood. With very few exceptions....attendees felt access from Woodburn was inappropriate given the complexities of access. Increasing traffic on Henderson and Wessex is only adding to already busy cut through.
Not in keeping with gentle densification as stated in our Official Community Plan.
Far exceeds the direction provided by Bill 44
Massing of this size is blatant greed
Too tall and in conflict with the mid century aesthetic of the neighbouring homes
Putting a sewage holding tank on site is a clear indication the development is too large for the lot and municipal infrastructure
Robs immediate neighbours of privacy, sunshine and distant views
The host collected over a 150 Feedback cards before running out. For those of you who were not able to complete a feedback card I have attached one for you. Once completed, forward it to upperhendersonresidents@gmail.com and we will compile and forward them to Westplan for inclusion in the submission to Oak Bay Municipal Council.
A meeting is in the planning for next steps and strategy. If you wish to attend/participate please let us know.
Please step forward....we need volunteers for:
petitioning
communications flyer distribution
strategic directions
